How did you get involved in CrossFit?My niece and her fiancé started doing CrossFit and I asked her if she thought I could do it. She encouraged me to give it a try.

What was your first WOD/experience? All I remember is that Dave had me doing deadlifts with an empty bar and that in the Conditioning there was a lot of arm work (dips, push-ups, not sure what else). Everyone was doing 5 rounds and he told me to do 3; I was the last one done. The best part was that EVERYONE cheered me on. I was dying but I loved the encouragement. After that workout I was so sore that I could barely move my arms. I got into my car and tried to put it in reverse (I drive stick) and I could not do it with one hand; I actually had to use both hands!

When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter? I started in November 2014 after a very long hiatus (20-years!) from working out.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you? From the very first class. I love the “community” feel that CrossFit has. I workout with a great group of people (friends really) at 6 pm. People have come and gone over the years but these people keep me coming back even when I’d rather be sitting on the couch. What are your short-term and long-term CrossFit goals? Short-term: I don’t really set goals. I want to build endurance and become more consistent with my form. Long-term: I’d really like to do double unders. Super hard for a girl with no rhythm!

What is your biggest accomplishment? Consistently showing up for 3 years. What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite Movements: Split Jerk Least Favorite Movement: Snatch and Running

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?  I’ve worked for Allstate Insurance in Northbrook for 31-years. I’ve done a variety of jobs over the years but am currently the Product Manager for our Robotics Process Automation team in IT.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?  Don’t laugh . . . I love to knit! I am also an avid reader. I have two awesome dogs, Sunshine and Riley. Ed and I like take a lot of vacations.

What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal? I’ve been Paleo for about 4-years and gluten-free a little longer. One of my favorite programs that I use to “reset” when I start eating less than healthy paleo foods is Whole30.

Favorite meal . . . I am not sure that I have just one. Chocolate Chili and Citrus Carnitas (Well Fed by Melissa Joulwan) Kalua Pig (Nom Nom Paleo): She has a crockpot and a pressure cooker recipe.

I eat a lot of hot/cold plate meals with chicken or ground beef as the protein over a variety of seasonal veggies.
