Jen Hilo - MEMBER OF THE MONTH OF JANUARY

How did you get involved in CrossFit?Roy had been CrossFitting for a while and became good friends with several other members. They were always bugging me to try it out. I finally relented telling them I'd try it to prove how much I would hate it. Then...I didn't hate it.

What was your first WOD/experience? I honestly couldn't remember my first WOD, so I had to look it up. (Apparently I was too busy trying not to die to take a mental note of that which was causing my near-death!) It looks like there was rowing, ring rows, biking, HSPU, DUs and ring dips. I'm positive that I did some sort of extremely scaled version of that.

When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter/ how long have you been CrossFitting for? November 17, 2014 - So just over a year!

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you? Right away! I was a complete newbie to working out in general when I started coming to Kilter. I had never spent much time in a gym and I had certainly never picked up a barbell or done basically any of the movements that were being asked of me. The coaches and other members were always there for support and to teach and guide me. It was a completely different experience for me and has been the only athletic pursuit I've ever been able to stick to and actually enjoy!

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals? Short-term: Pull - Up without a band Long-term: RX The Open

What is your biggest accomplishment? Finally being able to RX WODs!!

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite Movements: Snatch, Back Squat and Cleans Least Favorite Movement: Burpees, Thrusters and Overhead Squats

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit? I am a Sales Manager Assistant at CDW for the K12 segment. I support 15 members of our management team with data analytics and daily operations.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? I like movies and reading. I enjoy doing crafts and home improvement projects. I love spending time with my husband Roy and our two dogs (Abbey and Betsy) and two cats (Taylor and Chloe)!

What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal? I just eat as much spaghetti as possible.

Fun fact about you? Roy and I volunteer and foster dogs for a local dog rescue in Antioch called Underdog Rescue.
