How did you get involved in CrossFit? What was your first WOD/experience?
I heard about Crossfit through a friend. My husband and I looked up Crossfit online, not fully grasping what it was, but we thought it looked pretty interesting. We showed up for our first WOD, not knowing what to expect at all. Jason was the coach, he showed us the ropes of the WOD and we did it!! I remember thinking that I might die (still feel that way during most WODs), but have never quit coming back for more!!
When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter/ how long have you been CrossFitting for?
I started at Kilter as a first time crossfitter in May 2013. I have been crossfitting 4-5x/week ever since.
When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you? !!
I knew after my first WOD! I signed up as an unlimited member that very day!
What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals? Short-term: Continue WODDing as many times a week as possible. Long-term: Achieve Rx for all movements....it's going to take awhile!!
What is your biggest accomplishment?
I started crossfit extremely overweight, out of shape and really with no athletic ability. With lots of hard work including crossfit, clean eating/paleo, I have lost 40 lbs and have never felt better!! I am doing things that I never thought I could do. The first time I saw a HSPU, I laughed and thought that I would never be able to do that. Well, I was wrong because I am doing it!! I got my first unassisted pull up last month too!!!
What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite Movements: Cleans, HSPU, PU and Box Jumps
Least Favorite Movement: Like you have to ask…. BURPEES, Thrusters and Running!!
What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?
I am a registered nurse and have worked in Research and Development at Takeda Pharmaceuticals since 2003.
What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?
I enjoy spending time with my hubby, kids and dogs. I love relaxing on a sandy beach with a good book. Most of my free time is spent keeping up with my 13 and 9 year old kids and their schedules!!
What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?
Clean eating and 80/20 paleo has worked very well for me!! My favorite paleo meal is a filet and veggies on the grill. My favorite non-paleo food is Portillo's chocolate cake!
Fun fact about you?
I grew up in Iowa and did not live on a farm!! True black and gold fan.....Go Iowa Hawkeyes!!!
