Myles Burton - MEMBER OF THE MONTH OF APRIL

How did you get involved in CrossFit? I was working at Hitz as a bartender and a group from Kilter came in after a competition. Everyone was super nice and you guys invited me to come by for a free session. In the same week my girlfriend, Christine, also got invited to try it out. We always saw it on TV and were very intimidated by all of it. But because you were all so nice we decided to just give it a shot!

What was your first WOD experience?

I can't remember exactly what the WOD was, but it involved snatches and wall balls. I used the lightest wall ball and no weight on my bar for snatches. I am pretty sure I finished dead last in the class. I went home and could not get off the couch until the next day. I was so humbled by how hard it was, I had to get back for more.

When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter/ how long have you been CrossFitting for?

That first WOD was February of 2014, so just over two years now.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

I am super competitive, and the fact that I was finishing last in all the WODs motivated me to keep going. I knew CrossFit was right for me after the first WOD

What are you short-term CrossFit goals?

I want to be able to do all the movements RX. I still have to get a lot better at handstand push-ups, muscle-ups, handstand walks, and butterfly pull-ups. Then I will be happy!

What are your Long-term CrossFit goals?

I think that CrossFit is incredibly hard to do. It is even harder to do the older you get. I am impressed with all of the 'Masters' division people at CrossFit, and I would be so lucky if I can continue to compete in 10, 20, and 30 years like them.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Building up the courage to walk into Kilter for the first time. &

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?

Favorite Movements: Wall balls; I have the luxury of already being halfway to the mark on the wall.

Least Favorite Movement: It is a tie between snatches and thrusters. They are just so hard!

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit?

I am a painter by day; not the fun kind where you make cool art. The one where you put paint on the walls. I also am a bartender a couple nights a week.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?

When I am not at Kilter, I am at the basketball court. I think CrossFit is more important for my health, but I have a passion for basketball so I try to squeeze it in whenever I can. I also have a dog named Caito. He is super handsome and Christine and I take him to the dog park all the time.

What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?

Hm.... I am probably the worst person for this question. Since I work at a pizza joint, I have pizza a couple times a week. I eat fast food every day for lunch. I usually have gas station donuts for breakfast. And my guilty pleasure is Steak 'n Shake. I eat it at least once a week; their cookie butter shake is amazing. I cook dinner sometimes though, like some nice chicken breasts. Because you have to be healthy.

Fun fact about you?

I am one of six kids, and I was born in Louisiana. When I moved up here, I started school in Lake Forest. The kids made fun of my accent, so I was forced to lose it lol. Despite the fact that I eat as poorly as I do, I love cooking. I took a lot of cooking classes in high school and seriously considered culinary school, but I decided to take a basketball scholarship instead.
