Rey Rodriguez Jr. - MEMBER OF THE MONTH OF AUGUST

What was your first WOD/experience?My first ever wod was when I went to the 5A.M class with my dad at Cardinal Fitness. I was excited, and I even went back for more when Erica went. My first Kilter wod, I remember, 21-15-9 which was deadlifts and sit-ups.

When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter/ how long have you been CrossFitting for? I started coming to CrossFit Kilter somewhere in August of 2013. I've been CrossFitting for 2 and a half years. Almost 3.

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you? Back when my old gym closed. I thought CrossFit was gone forever. Then my sister found Kilter. And ever since then, I have pushed myself much more, and have gotten a lot stronger!

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals? Short-term: Being able to hit a 80kg snatch and 95kg clean and jerk, and being able to do 14 Ring MU unbroken. Long-term: Make a podium finish at nationals. Also be part of Team USA and compete in the Youth or Junior worlds. I know that's not CrossFit, but hopefully competing in the Teen CrossFit Games next year!

What is your biggest accomplishment? My biggest accomplishment was making Youth Nationals and placing 7th overall. I failed the year before, and it motivated me to train even harder. And having CrossFit help me build that stamina for my next lift.

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement? Favorite Movements: I love Ring and Bar MU, pull-ups and C2B, box jumps and DU Least Favorite Movement: I hate wall balls, thrusters, and running

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit? I usually spend a lot of time with family, and friends. I also ride my ATV, and at night I'll play some video games. But I get tired early, so that doesn't happen a lot anymore.

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit? I'm a weightlifter. Whatever I need to work on, I'll work on. I watch videos of world champion weightlifters to gain more knowledge, I watch a lot of Jon North for motivation. I do enjoy playing basketball/volleyball.

What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal? I do my best to eat healthy. I'm not that paleo type of person. I won't eat fast food everyday, but I'm more of a meat person. I have it everyday and cannot go a day without it. Depending on how I feel, I'll have white rice or Mexican rice on the side. And some vegetables. That will be a normal meal for me. And couple plates with that.

Fun fact about you?

I don't back down from any goal/challenge.
