Zach Hemmerich - MEMBER OF THE MONTH OF MARCH

How did you get involved in CrossFit? My dad was crossfitting for a while and he thought it would improve my karate, so I started doing a few wods and started enjoying it much more than doing karate. So I quit karate to continue crossfitting.

What was your first WOD/experience?

I don't remember the wod exactly, but I just remember being really bad at it and being incredibly sore the next day. I was so unfamiliar with weightlifting and being in a gym environment, that I did not even know how to put the collars on the barbell. I also remember doing pull ups with a black band too, it's funny how things change.

When did you start coming to CrossFit Kilter/ how long have you been CrossFitting for?

Summer of 2013

When did you realize that CrossFit was right for you?

Going home and feeling like I actually accomplished something, I felt a lot more of a thrill wodding and lifting weights than doing katate. Also I felt it helped build my character and I could feel like I was actually getting stronger. I remember being actually able to see the results for the first time, it was a pretty cool feeling.

What are you short-term and long-term CrossFit goals?

Short-term: Keep getting PR's on my Snatch and Clean and Jerk.

Long-term: See how far I can push my weightlifting career.

What is your biggest accomplishment?

Being able to compete at Youth Nationals in 2015 (for olympic lifting) and I just got done competing at Junior Nationals in February!

What is your favorite / least favorite WOD/movement?

Favorite Movements: Clean and Jerk, Muscle Ups

Least Favorite Movement: Thrusters

What do you do for a profession outside of CrossFit? Junior in High School

What are your hobbies outside of CrossFit?

Playing video games and hanging out with friends.

What do you do for nutrition? Do you eat Paleo or Zone? What is your favorite paleo/non-paleo meal?

I just eat whatever is at my house. But most of the time, I choose the healthier option.

Fun fact about you?

I find enjoyment when my dad asks "what did you get on the wod" and I end up beating his score. This happens more often than it should.
